Membership: categories, fees and application procedures
 

General information on membership and fees

Membership fees are yearly contributions that are fixed by the Standing Orders of the Association. The membership fee incorporates an automatic subscription to the European Journal of Social Psychology, which is published six times per year (postgraduate members only receive electronic access), the European Bulletin of Social Psychology, which is the Newsletter of the Association, the European Review of Social Psychology, as well as the Social Psychological and Personality Science (available from 2010 onwards)

Membership status and annual fee

The Membership of the EASP is fully described in Articles 5 to 17 of the Association. It comprises three different types. The annual fee payable depends upon membership status.

Full Members: 96 €
Social psychologists living in one of the European countries and who have been awarded a doctoral degree.

Affiliate Members: 72 €
Social psychologists who have been awarded a doctoral degree but who live outside Europe.

Post­graduate Members: 48 €
Postgraduate social psychologists working in a European institution and who are working towards a Ph.D. Postgraduate Member status expires when the postgraduate member obtains his or her Ph.D. or, in any case, after a period of four years.

A reduced membership fee is set for members in different European countries:

Full Members living in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lituania, Poland, Slovakia or Slowenia: 48

Full Members living in Bulgaria, Russia or Romania: 30

Postgraduate Members living in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lituania, Poland, Slovakia or Slowenia: 24

Postgraduate Members living in Bulgaria, Russia or Romania: 15


The amount payable per year is subject to change, if such changes are approved at a members' meeting during the General Meeting.

You can pay your membership fee by credit card by a secure website

Another possibility to pay your membership fee is to pay by interbank transfer to the German or Dutch account listed below, making sure that all bank charges are paid by the sender.

Fees are payable in advance, and should be received by end of December of the previous year in order to guarantee uninterrupted receipt of the European Journal of Social Psychology in the following year.

Fee waivers

Fees may be waived or reduced under the following circumstances:

Financial hardship
A one-year waiver is available for those who are having financial difficulties and are unable to pay dues. Please submit a brief description of your reason to the Executive Officer.

Eastern members
The fee for Eastern members is set to a reduced rate (please contact the Executive Officer for more details). Those who are unable to pay dues because of currency restrictions or financial hardship are encouraged to apply to have dues waived. Please submit a brief description of your reason to the Executive Officer.

Retired members
Upon notification, retired members who have been members for the last 20 years or more will pay half of their yearly fee. Please inform the Executive Officer about your retirement, if you have not already done so.

Membership Application Procedure

The following procedure applies to persons wishing to join the Association in any capacity (i.e., as Full Member, Affiliate Member, or Postgraduate Member).

Application form
The applicant should fill in this form depending of the membership status:

Curriculum vitae
An accompanying e-mail attaching a curriculum vitae should be sent to the Executive Officer.The CV should contain brief biographical details and for an application for Full/Affiliate Membership also the complete academic history, including details of publications. Ideally, the curriculum vitae should be written in English.

Two letters of support
The applicant should make sure that two referees, who are Full Members of the Association, are willing to send their recommendation.

Approval by Executive Committee
When the Executive Officer is in possession of all the relevant documents (i.e., application form, curriculum vitae, two letters of support), the application will be considered at the next meeting of the Executive Committee of the Association. The committee usually meets twice a year, normally in April and October (deadlines for membership applications are March, 15 and September, 15 ). Although decisions about applications cannot be taken at other times of the year, those who wish to apply for membership are free to do so at any time.

One month notification
When an application is approved by the Executive Committee, names of all applicants will be notified to the full members. If no objections will be received by the Secretary within one month of publication, the applicant becomes a Full/Affiliate/Postgraduate Member of the Association.
