Freedom, equality, achievement, national security, cleanliness, pleasure – these are just a small sample of ideals we can label as human values. These abstract ideals are important to us, and we may go to great lengths to support the values and express them in our behavior. Yet, psychological research on human values has shown variety in how they can be conceptualized, alongside complexities in their roles within our feelings, beliefs, and behavior. The Psychology of Human Values provides the first comprehensive overview of psychological research looking at how we mentally represent and use our values.
