EASP – European Association of Social Psychology

Code of conduct and complaints procedure

It is the policy of the EASP that all participants in society activities will enjoy an environment for scientific exchange that protects and supports all types of diversity and is free from discrimination and harassment, as indicated in the Ethics Mission Statement. By becoming members of the EASP and participating in its activities, members, affiliates, postgraduates and guests of the EASP agree to comply with the EASP Code of Conduct, including rules and procedures specified in this document.

All participants in EASP activities are obliged to take notice of the rules of conduct. Lack of awareness of the Ethics Mission and its principles or misunderstanding of the EASP Code of Conduct is not an acceptable defence against a charge of unethical conduct.

Note: This Code of Conduct aligns with principles and guidelines for appropriate professional conduct and ethical research, endorsed by the European Federation of Psychologists Associations (https://www.efpa.eu/sites/default/files/2023-03/model-code-of-ethics.pdf), the American Psychological Association (https://www.apa.org/ethics/code), the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, (https://spsp.org/code-of-conduct) and the British Psychological Society (https://explore.bps.org.uk/content/report-guideline/bpsrep.2021.inf94). The definition of sexual harassment aligns with the Istanbul Convention of the Council of Europe (https://rm.coe.int/168008482e), which is also used by other relevant bodies such as the European Index of Gender Inequality, the European Commission, and the International Labour Organization.
