The Canada-wide research consortium Engendering Success in STEM (ESS; is currently seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellow. The successful applicant(s) would work at one or more of the key research locations for the PRISM Project, which is led by Stephen Wright (Simon Fraser University), Steven Spencer (Ohio State University), Toni Schmader (University of British Columbia; ESS Director), and Hilary Bergsieker (University of Waterloo). Research in the ESS consortium is aimed broadly at understanding ­and intervening to change ­implicit gender bias and its consequences for girls and women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The current postdoctoral fellowship will focus on the PRISM project and thus involve research primarily (although not exclusively) with children and adolescents. Depending on the interests and experience of the fellow, applicants can gain expertise in multiple methods (implicit measures, social network analysis, developmental approaches, field-based event sampling studies, intervention research) and will work in a team-based environment to design and carry out projects that integrate research at the intersection of implicit bias, social identity threat, and intergroup contact theory.

The successful applicant could begin as early as January 2020, ideally by spring 2020, but start date is negotiable. Review of applications will begin Oct. 30th, 2019, but applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled. The position is full-time for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of renewal. Applicants may be Canadian citizens or non-citizens. Responsibilities include taking a leadership role in designing and executing research projects, including statistical analysis and writing up the results of research for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of research productivity related to intergroup relations; implicit social cognition; stigma and stereotyping; gender; intergroup contact; or social-cognitive development. Scholars in social, organizational, educational, and/or developmental psychology are encouraged to apply. Experience working in field settings (e.g., schools, museums, camps, organizations) is highly desirable. Expertise in longitudinal research, intervention designs, and multi-level modeling (in R or SPSS) would also be valuable.

Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related discipline (or expect to have successfully defended their dissertation prior taking up the postdoc appointment). The base salary for this position is $45,000 (CAD/year plus benefits for the candidate and any eligible dependents). However, final salary and benefits are commensurate with standards set by the University of British Columbia. The successful candidate will also receive a travel allowance of $1,500 CAD/year to attend conferences or scholarly meetings and will have the opportunity to receive training with more than member of the ESS team, if desired.
