We are excited to open the call for submissions for a one-off meeting, “Social Science Perspectives on Individuals, Cultures and Institutions in the Mediterranean Region”, organized to promote exchange among scholars from different social sciences whose research focuses on the Mediterranean region.

The meeting will be held in Rethymno, Crete between April 6-8, 2025, with support from the European Research Council, the Centre for Research on Cultural and Societal Diversity (CRCSD) at the University of Sussex, and the University of Crete Research Centre.

We are accepting abstract submissions for individual papers, symposia/panel discussions, and posters on all social science topics related to the Mediterranean region and groups originating from the Mediterranean societies. Some example topics include identities, ideologies, cultural/religious values, norms, and practices, languages, immigration, refugees, multiculturalism, intergroup relations and conflict, inequality, legal and social interactions, democracy and governing. We particularly encourage submissions that take a cultural and/or comparative approach in studying different social science topics within the region and beyond.

Over the course of the meeting, we will host scholarly presentations by researchers from different social science disciplines (e.g., psychology, sociology, economics, anthropology, political science) and all career stages. Our goal is to facilitate exchange between scholars who study the Mediterranean region using different theoretical and methodological perspectives and help learn from each other, generate new questions and promote future collaborations. We aim for a medium size meeting with around 60 attendees.

We look forward to your submissions. For more details, please see the attached Call for Papers.
