"Anti-LGBTQ+ Policies Worldwide: Psychosocial Processes and Community Impact Across Cultural Contexts"
Guest Editors:
Marco Salvati, Sara Panerati, Jakub Šrol, Vladimira Cavojova
The proposed Special Issue aims to examine anti-LGBTQ+ policies as both outcomes and drivers of psychosocial processes, with a strong focus on applied perspectives. In line with the mission of JCASP, the Special Issue seeks to integrate social psychological theory with real-world social issues, highlighting how policy climates interact with social norms, intergroup contact, symbolic threat, collective action, and community resilience across cultural contexts.
Methodologically, the Special Issue would welcome quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research, as well as systematic reviews, meta-analyses, cross-cultural and comparative designs. Such contributions are encouraged, provided they clearly engage with psychosocial processes and community implications.
The Special Issue would welcome contributions addressing, among others:
- Psychosocial antecedents and consequences of anti-LGBTQ+ laws and policies;
- The role of social norms, political discourse, and institutional actors in legitimizing prejudice and discrimination;
- Community-level processes under restrictive policy climates (e.g., exclusion, silence, mobilization, solidarity);
- Effects of hostile legal environments on mental health, well-being, identity, and belonging;
- Collective action, resistance, and coping strategies among LGBTQ+ communities and allies;
- Cross-national and comparative studies of policy climates and psychosocial outcomes;
- Intersectional perspectives on the impact of anti-LGBTQ+ policies;
- Applied and community-based interventions responding to discriminatory policies.
