Call for Papers: Special issue on the Social Psychology of Artificial Intelligence in the Asian Journal of Social Psychology (AJSP)
The guest editors (Mengchen Dong, Max Planck Institute for Human Development; Jim Everett, University of Kent; Jianning Dang, Beijing Normal University) welcome new research on the Social Psychology of Artificial Intelligence.
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the fabric of daily life is no longer a futuristic concept but a present reality. From algorithms curating our news and entertainment to conversational agents managing our schedules and providing companionship, AI systems are increasingly acting as social actors. This special issue Social Psychology of Artificial Intelligence seeks to advance our understanding of these interactions through the theoretical and methodological lens of social psychology.
This issue moves beyond a purely technological perspective to explore the rich, dynamic, and often nuanced social and psychological processes that characterize human-AI interaction. We are interested not only in how people perceive, interact with, and are influenced by AI but also in the social psychological consequences of being an AI user and the broader ethical implications of these relationships.
We invite original empirical research (Note: In line with the Aim and Scope of AJSP, we do not accept single cross-sectional studies), meta-analyses, and review papers that address, but are not limited to, the following themes:
-Social psychological mechanisms of social engagement with AI
-Antecedents of human-AI interaction and AI acceptance
-Consequences of human-AI interaction for individuals and groups
-Social psychological accounts of human-AI interaction in specific domains of application, such as workplace productivity, creative collaboration, and personal companionship
-Human-AI interactions and emotional and psychological wellbeing
-Social psychological experiences of AI users
-Ethical and moral issues, such as social influences of AI on human moral judgments and ethical behavior
-Cultural differences in human-AI interactions
Interested authors should submit a 2-page, single-spaced abstract to Jianning Dang (jndang@bnu.edu.cn) by February 28, 2026. The abstract must present completed work and illustrate the relevance of social psychological concepts and theories to AI. The abstract should include: (1) a tentative title, (2) a theoretical background and purpose of the investigation, (3) the methods and principal results, and (4) the major conclusions. Citations are allowed, and references should be listed on a separate page.
The Asian Journal of Social Psychology has a regional focus on Asia, but we welcome contributions with data from around the world, from authors around the world.
