CALL FOR UNPUBLISHED DATA on religiosity and radicalization or extremism

04.07.2025, by Media Account

Deadline: 30 July, 2025

We are interested in the correlations between individual religiosity (e.g., denomination, intrinsic or extrinsic religiosity, religious practice, religious orthodoxy, fundamentalism, etc.) and radicalization (e.g., as measured by radicalization or extremism scales, militancy, support for terrorism or suicide attacks, etc.).

Dear colleagues,

We are currently conducting a meta-analysis on the relation between religiosity and radicalization. Therefore, we are seeking published and unpublished data. Specifically, we are interested in the correlations between individual religiosity (e.g., denomination, intrinsic or extrinsic religiosity, religious practice, religious orthodoxy, fundamentalism, etc.) and radicalization (e.g., as measured by radicalization or extremism scales, militancy, support for terrorism or suicide attacks, etc.).

If you could share the zero-order correlation coefficient, sample size, demographic information (e.g., sample type, average education level, religious denomination, country of origin, average age, % of women), details about the measure you used, and how you wish to be cited. That would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any published or unpublished data (including theses, nearly published data, dissertations) that may be of interest to us, we would greatly appreciate it if you could send them to p.hanel@essex.ac.uk by the 30th of July. We would also appreciate it if you could share our call with people who might have data that meet our inclusion criteria.

If you have any doubts or questions, please contact us at the email address above.

Many thanks for your time and consideration of our request!

Sarah Demmrich and Paul Hanel
