Call for Submissions - The Future of Behavioral Ethics: Social Perspectives on Dishonesty – 15.05-16.05.2025, Berlin

Dishonesty is a widespread phenomenon that has substantial societal implications. Recent advances have highlighted the importance of social perspectives on dishonesty, such as contagious dishonesty in groups and the social effects of dishonesty. At the same time, the field of dishonesty finds itself in turmoil due to a series of failed replications, and accusations and revelations of fraudulent data practices. The aim of the current meeting is to connect scholars interested in dishonesty (including corruption or bribery) and offer a platform to present state-of-the-art theoretical and empirical research and discuss the way forward to make research on dishonesty more valid, reproducible, and generalizable.

Therefore, we invite researchers of all career stages representing various theoretical perspectives, methodologies, and disciplines to present their work on dishonesty. The meeting will focus on the following sub-themes, amongst others:

-Theoretical Approaches to Dishonesty
-Dishonesty in Social Context
-Moral Emotions in Dishonesty
-Methods in Research on Dishonesty
-Interdisciplinary Approaches from Personality, Developmental, Evolutionary, and Economic Perspectives

We invite submissions to be presented as regular talks (15 minutes) or flash talks (5 minutes). In addition, we will organise a workshop aimed at sketching the way forward in dishonesty research.

The meeting will take place from 15.05 – 16.05.2025 at Harnack House in Berlin, Germany.

The historic location has been home to influential scientists and Nobel-laureates. The vibrant capital of Germany is located in the heart of Europe with national and international train and flight connections.

Participation will be of no cost, and we will cover the costs of meals (including reception and two dinners, but not breakfast). In addition, scholars who at an early career stage, from underrepresented regions, or low-income countries can apply for one of six waivers for two-days of accommodation.
