EASP small group meeting on "Reproductive Justice: A Social Psychology Perspective”
21.11.2024, by Media Account
** Deadline extended to 25 January, 2025 **
June 25-27, 2025, Perugia, Italy
Reproductive justice is recognized by WHO and the UN as fundamental to the lives of millions of people. It is also fundamental to gender equality. This EASP-sponsored meeting will focus on two key reproductive rights in reproductive justice: the right not to have a child and the right to have a child. Both rights require that people have the information, resources, and autonomy to make their own choices. The right not to have a child requires, among others, sexual and relationship education, contraception, and abortion services. The right to have a child requires medically assisted reproduction, third-party reproduction, and freedom from obstetric violence. Our meeting will feature quantitative and qualitative research relevant to these topics, including attitudes and lived experiences surrounding abortion and the social actors involved, contraceptive autonomy, child-free persons, medically assisted and third-party reproduction, and financial support for parents.
The meeting will take place in Perugia, a charming city in Umbria, Italy, renowned for its medieval architecture and vibrant cultural scene. Perugia is easily accessible by bus or train from Rome. The event will be held June 25-27, 2025, with two days dedicated to presentations and half-day reserved for discussions on the future of the field.
Attendance is open to researchers from around the world; however, we will prioritize submissions from EASP members and aim to ensure that at least 25% of participants are EASP postgraduate members. Scholars from under-represented countries and demographics are especially welcome. To encourage postgraduate participation, funding accommodation is available for two EASP postgraduates.
We invite submissions for oral presentations from researchers at all career stages (postgraduate, early-career, and senior) in psychology and related fields who focus on reproductive rights. Ideally, we aim to bring together a diverse group of scholars representing all the career stages, to foster a fruitful exchange.
