28 May, 2026 in Barcelona (pre-conference to APS Convention)
Are you attending the APS (Association for Psychological Science) Annual Convention (https://www.psychologicalscience.org/conventions) in Barcelona, Spain this May?
The Love Consortium (TLC) (theloveconsortium.unc.edu) invites you to join us for "Empathy: Approaches and Implications for a Divided World." This full-day event will feature the latest research on empathy from scholars across multiple disciplines and geographies. Together, we’ll explore empathy’s role in early development, its implications for interpersonal relationships and group dynamics, as well as the potential costs to engaging in empathic behaviors across contexts. Importantly, this event seeks to create space for empathy researchers studying the construct from different approaches and using different methodologies to connect with one another, share insights, and learn from areas of convergence and disagreement. Through talks and discussion, we aim to identify both tensions and opportunities to build a more rigorous, collaborative, and impactful science of empathy.
This event will take place in-person in Barcelona, Spain on May 28, 2026 and is an official partnership with the Association for Psychological Science. As such, although there are no additional fees to attend TLC’s Empathy Preconference, all participants must be registered for the broader APS convention in order to attend. You can learn more about registration fees and dates on the APS convention website (https://www.psychologicalscience.org/conventions). The registration link for the empathy preconference can be found under the “Sessions” tab during the registration process. If you have already registered for APS and you would like to attend the empathy preconference, please follow these instructions (https://www.psychologicalscience.org/conventions/2026-aps-annual-convention/add-workshops) to add the empathy preconference to your registration. Like our prior small conferences, this event will be capped at 80 people and we will curate the program to ensure ample time throughout the day for attendees to connect with one another and engage in intellectual discourse. All-day coffee, snacks, and lunch will be provided.
