Deadline: 30 June 2026
The Consortium for Social Psychological and Personality Science has opened nominations for the Editor-in-Chief of its journal, Social Psychological and Personality Science (SPPS), to begin July 1, 2027.
The Editor-in-Chief shall be responsible for the scientific content of SPPS, a unique short reports journal in social and personality psychology. Its aim is to publish concise reports of empirical studies that provide meaningful contributions to our understanding of important issues in social and personality psychology. SPPS strives to publish innovative, rigorous, and impactful research, with a speedy review and publication process to allow its articles to become part of the scientific conversation quickly. In recent years SPPS has received approximately 550 new submissions per year.
The term of office of the Editor-in-Chief runs for four years, with an annual stipend of $22,000 USD. The journal currently supports 2 Co-Editors and 8 Associate Editors with terms concurrent with the Editor-in-Chief, and it has strong editorial support from the journal publisher (SAGE). Duties of the position include: responsibility for the editorial process overall; triaging papers for peer review consideration; assigning them to Associate Editors for further handling; dealing with journal policymaking and issues that arise from individual cases; and making a formal report twice a year to the Consortium. Before taking office, the Editor-in-Chief will also be expected to recruit a team of Co-Editors and/or Associate Editors, and manage comings and goings among the Editorial Board of trusted reviewers.
Candidates for the position should have prior editorial experience working with a peer-reviewed journal of some standing. They should be in a position to offer the significant commitment of time, expertise and resources that such a position requires.
Nominations, including self-nominations, should be sent with the nominee’s CV and a one-page statement describing relevant qualifications, editorial experience, and editorial philosophy to Prof. Roger Giner-Sorolla (Consortium Chairperson) at rsg@kent.ac.uk. Please title your email “SPPS nomination” and include CV and statement in the same email, preferably as PDF attachments.
Review of nominations by the Consortium (the Chair, representing SPSP, and representatives from EASP, SESP, and SPR) will begin on June 30, 2026. Short-listed candidates will be invited to a remote interview within two months of that date. The interview process will continue until the position is filled.
On behalf of the Consortium (Alexandra Vazquez Botana, EASP; Abigail Scholer, SESP; Richard Lucas, SPR), we look forward to hearing about many good candidates!
Roger Giner-Sorolla (SPSP)
