The EASP travel grant gave me the opportunity to attend the SPSP conference, which was held in Atlanta, US on March 1-3, 2018.

In this conference, I was co-chair of the symposium entitled “Antecedents and Consequences of Economic Objectification.” The main aim of this symposium was to provide audience with a comprehensive account of the antecedents and consequences of economic objectification, adopting an interdisciplinary framework that considers research from both social and economic psychology. In the same symposium, I was also co-author of an oral presentation entitled “Feeling like an object: Working Self-Objectification Decreases Personal Free Will” in which we presented four experimental studies showing that performing objectifying (i.e., repetitive, fragmented, and other-directed) tasks affects people’s self-objectification, and in turn their belief in personal free will.

Attending the SPSP conference allowed me to strengthen the collaboration with the colleagues that took part at the symposium. In fact, this collaboration started last year during the EASP meeting at Granada, where we organized with these colleagues a symposium on the same topic. Further, it allowed our research to gain great visibility in an important international context. Finally, the participation at this conference gave me the chance to stay updated about new research trends on social psychology and to have precious insights from other scholars and their works.
