Call for papers Meeting on Social Identity, Health and Leadership

Brussels, Royal Academy of Medecine, June 3, 2024

The Social Identity Approach (SIA) has become the dominant theoretical framework to explain group processes and has transformed the mainstream approaches to mental health by integrating the group dimension in psychological interventions (i.e., the so-called Social Cure approach). This approach has also led to major advances in the field of organizational behaviour by integrating an intergroup perspective on leadership. In this conference, we will consider how the Social Identity Approach can be applied to different domains of society, in particular health and organizational leadership, and how both relate to well-being and performance.

Keynote speakers at the meeting are Prof. Alexander S. Haslam, Prof. Catherine Haslam, both from the University of Queensland (Australia), and Prof. Stephen D. Reicher (University of Saint-Andrews, UK), leading figures of the Social Identity Approach. We invite researchers (all academic levels) with interests in social identity, health or leadership to participate, and there are opportunities for oral presentations in different formats (blitz or regular).

The meeting will be on June 3, 2024 from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Royal Academy of Medicine, Brussels, Belgium (close to the central station). We ask for a contribution of 50 euros (90 euros for Lecturers/Professors) for catering including a buffet lunch (with vegetarian options). In case of hardship please contact Paul Bertin (paul.bertin@ulb.be) for a possible waiver. Note that attendance will be limited to 90 persons maximum (note that in case the number of submissions exceeds the seating capacity, priority will be accorded to researchers based in Belgium). The deadline for submissions of presentations and registration is March 22 but we will consider later registrations if there is space still available.

Organizers:

Paul Bertin, Bernard Dan, Olivier Klein & Michel Sylin, Université libre de Bruxelles
