European Bulletin of Social Psychology 28,2 (November 2016)

Dear colleagues and friends,

I hope you have had a relaxing summer and a lot of energy for all challenges the new academic year may bring with it. One of which being the 2016 18th General Meeting in Granada, which is actively and very professionally prepared by Rosa Rodriguez-Bailón and Miguel Moya as local organizers, and by Jereoen Vaes and his team as program committee. The prospects are excellent that we will have a great and stimulating scientific general meeting in one of the most beautiful European cities. This General Meeting will be exceptional also as we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of our association, there will be special events you don't want to miss. If you want to make sure to attend this memorable General Meeting and if you haven't yet, you still have time to submit a proposal as the submission deadline has been extended until November 10, 2016 24H GMT (http://www.easpgranada2017.com)

I want to draw your specific attention to some of the contributions in the new volume of the European Bulletin. First of all, you will find two obituaries on two honorable EASP-members, who unfortunately passed away recently: Mauk Mulder, one of the founder of our association and Augusto Palmonari, a prominent figure of the development of social psychology in Italy. As you will read, in different ways both of them have strongly contributed to our field and to the firm establishment of EA(E)SP.

I want to draw your specific attention to some of the contributions in the new volume of the European Bulletin. In the current Opinions & Perspectives section you will find three papers discussing how social psychology can help us understand terrorism. For more than a year indeed, Europe has dealt with a series of tragic events that have triggered important and long lasting shock waves around the world. The first piece by Pascal Huguet is a translation of an editorial that was published in one of main French newspapers in the aftermath of the attacks that occurred in France in November 2015. In this paper, Pascal Huguet nicely summarizes how much social psychology has to offer to inform the public debate about terrorism. In the second piece Abdelatif Er-Rafiy considers the possible impact on, and reaction of, these events and the surrounding political and social climate they have initiated on the Muslim immigrants leaving in France. Finally Bertjan Doosje discusses the possibilities of doing research on terrorism. I hope you will agree with me about the interest of this set of papers. Let me remind you that the Opinions & Perspectives section of the bulletin is open and if you have any project of contribution, do not hesitate to contact me.

Let me close by wishing you a very nice holiday season and all the best for the New Year!
Jean-Claude Croizet
