EASP – European Association of Social Psychology

2-year Postdoc at the Behaviour in Crisis-Lab, Deadline 30th August 2023

04.08.2023, by Malgorzata Kossowska

Applications are invited for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Behaviour in Crisis Lab (BiC-L; https://becrilab.id.uj.edu.pl/en_GB/start), a centre of excellence at Jagiellonian University, Poland

The position is attached to a subproject led by Malgorzata Kossowska (http://cscs.edu.pl/malgorzata-kossowska/) and in collaboration with Ana Guinote (University College London), Ursula Kessels (Freie Universität, Berlin), Jesper Strömbäck (University of Gothenburg ) and Manuel Moyano (Cordoba University). The project (DigiPatch, https://digipatch.eu ) will systematically examine the role of digital media in social and cultural transformations driven by the dynamics between processes of social influence (via digital media use), socio-psychological processes (motivational and cognitive biases of digital users, i.e., as passive recipients, and in turn, as actors), and cultural processes (values, identities, religious and ideological differences). Moreover, it aims to explore the extent to which such transformations entail risks to social cohesion, in digital and ecological settings (e.g., the rise of social conflicts), by decreasing the power of communities and the State to create shared norms, culture, and ultimately cultivate effective social coordination.

The successful applicant will closely collaborate with the PI and the other members at DigiPatch and BiC-L. In particular, the successful applicant is expected to have an interest in media and communication, social and political psychology, and a good understanding of social issues as the product of the interaction between media usage, psychological, and societal influences on social cohesion. Advanced statistical proficiency is a strong advantage, ideally including areas such as longitudinal, multilevel and/or behavioural modelling.

The position as postdoctoral researcher is a two-year, fixed-term academic research position. As part of a small, interdisciplinary subproject within the Lab, the postdoc position will cover a variety of tasks including research design, data collection, analysis and dissemination. The selected candidate will also be expected to contribute substantially to publications, both as first and second author and to take part in the research activities at the Lab on a daily basis. The latter includes some organizational tasks, e.g., in relation to organizing workshops, seminars etc. The position doesn’t include teaching obligations.
