Associate Professor or tenure-track Assistant Professor for an associate Professorship (Qualitative)

  • PhD in psychology or equivalent;
  • Good academic teaching record;
  • Expertise in qualitative methodologies, with a good understanding of mixed methods or an openness to this type of approach;
  • Proven record of applied research in one or more areas of health psychology (e.g., health promotion / education, treatment of chronic illnesses or other topics in the practical/applied health psychology, etc.);
  • Excellent international networks;
  • Experience in coordinating postgraduate training would be an advantage.

Please note that this position is part of a joint recruitment process with another tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor position in health psychology – quantitative approaches. The complementarity of these positions in terms of theoretical and methodological approaches (particularly regarding qualitative and quantitative approaches) and contrasting areas of research will be an important selection criterion.

Teaching (45%)

Six hours of teaching a week, throughout the year, at Bachelor (BA) and Master (MA) levels, determined in accordance with institutional requirements, including:

  • Lecture course “Theories and models in the health psychology” (BA level, 28 hours, 3 ECTS)
  • Seminar in research design and methods (BA level, 56 hours, annual, 6 ECTS)
  • Lecture course in the health psychology, precise topic to be determined according to the needs of the Faculty (MA level, 56 hours, 6 ECTS)
  • Seminar in the health psychology, precise topic to be determined according to the candidate’s  area of expertise (MA level, 28 hours, 3 ECTS)
  • Supervision of MA dissertations and PhD theses.

Research (45%)

The post-holder will pursue research in the health psychology, with a specific but not exclusive interest in practical/applied research in the areas indicated above. The post-holder will be affiliated to one of the research centres in the Institute of Psychology (IP). S/he will be expected to produce high-quality academic publications.

The post-holder will seek external funding, in particular from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

Administrative responsibilities (10%)

In accordance with statutory requirements and in the name of collegiality, the post-holder will take on any administrative tasks that may be assigned to them by the Institute, Faculty, University or university decision-making bodies.

The post is located in the Institute of Psychology (IP) and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.
