15th-16th April in Helsinki, Finland or Online;
Submission deadline: December 31st, 2020 (working groups); February 7th, 2021 (individual papers)
Please save the date for the annual Social Psychology Days conference, which will be held in Helsinki on 15th and 16th of April 2021. The conference will be held on site, if possible, and, or if not, online.
The conference theme is "The Multiple Angles of Well-Being".
Keynote speakers include:
- Dr Cristian Tileagă (Loughborough University, UK),
- Dr Samantha Heintzelman (Rutgers University-Newark, USA),
- Dr Tracy Morison (Massey University, New Zealand), and
- Professor Jari Hakanen (Finnish Institute of Occupational Health).
At the current times of heightened uncertainty, human well-being arises as an ever more pertinent issue worth addressing from a multitude of scientific angles. This uncertainty can relate to issues such as health at the face of pandemics or climate change. In addition, uncertainty is involved in polarized and even aggressively enforced group divisions and politicized negotiations around equal rights to security.
At Social Psychology Days 2021, we wish to engage with the question of how social psychology in its various forms can address and enhance well-being empirically and theoretically. We will explore interventions into well-being, research on knowledge-making practices, and everyday understandings around it. We also wish to engage with inequalities related to well-being, how well-being is defined in relation to ill-being, whose well-being comes to matter in societal practices, and what kinds of norms and realities underlie our definitions of well-being. Finally, we wish to address the question of what the grounds are for building solidarity around well-being, and in turn, how solidarity-building practices can enhance well-being.
A call for workshops and a separate call for papers will be announced later this year. For further information, please visit the conference website, which we update regularly: https://blogs.helsinki.fi/socialpsychologyconference2021.
